(observed 1967-1973)
Jimmy Gonover appeared as someone in the mid-20s who can be seen as a "crazy-wisdom" (Tibetan phrase) person. He had an incredible instinct for for finding and recognizing genius and profundity in other people and would demand answers to incredibly deep and profound questions. he never really offered any thoughts of his own. Selflessly, he would find others and through his questions and generally demeanor pressure others to think out loud with their own most profound thoughts.
Also we was a regular thief at the Lambertville, New Jersey Acme Market (now demolished), where he would quite openly shoplift food and then give all of it away to the needy poor and elderly. The people who worked in this supermarket, would watch him come in and say "Here comes JImmy", and Gonover would walk out with an armful of food, but never asked for a bag.
He educated people to their own brilliance and to their own need to be charitable, and he did it every day, during this 6 year period.
